Macaulay Abroad

All University Scholars will need to meet the challenges of learning and leadership in an increasingly global environment. Going abroad for study gives you the opportunity to live with students from your host country, learn a foreign language, and immerse yourself in a cross-cultural experience. Studying abroad heightens your awareness and sensitivity, preparing you for leadership in a variety of contexts. And, as many students report, you will be transformed by your global learning experience. Go beyond the classroom by studying in an entirely different environment

Many study abroad options exist and programs can vary in length. In seeking intellectual breadth and global awareness, we strongly encourage you to seize the opportunity to study in an honors-level program abroad. For an enriched experience, we encourage you to study abroad for at least a full semester. All Macaulay students must complete at least one internship or global learning experience prior to graduation. Study abroad programs must be offered at accredited institutions of higher education that offer courses for university credit. These credits must transfer to your home campus.

How can I locate my study abroad options?

Visit your campus study abroad office or search all CUNY study abroad office websites and programs through the Online Directory of CUNY Study Abroad and International Exchange Programs. You can also participate in programs outside offered by other universities, such as SUNY. Search university websites for program information. Finally, organizations such as University Study Abroad Consortium (USAC) sponsor programs in a host of nations. Research USAC programs online.

How can I finance my study abroad program?

Macaulay Resources

Tuition--Macaulay will pay tuition, according to tuition policy relevant to the term(s) abroad, for any credit-bearing program.

Program Costs--

  1. Opportunities Fund: You can submit an Opportunities Fund application to request funding for program costs--including airfare, housing, and meals (see Opportunities Fund-hotlink!). Depending on your year, you may be limited to the funding amount your request receives. However, you can apply for the full $7500 if you participate in a semester or year-long program.
  2. Wallace Youth Travel Grant: Wallace Youth Travel Grants are available to eligible University Scholars. Grants will support short term and long-term study abroad, usually ranging $1666-$2000. Click for eligibility requirements and applications.
