Class of 2016 Orientation

Congratulations to the Macaulay Honors College Class of 2016!

We look forward to seeing you and to sharing your experiences as Macaulay Honors College freshmen.

IMPORTANT--there are three steps that you must complete before orientation. Please do not delay these (and please remember that participation in orientation is expected of all incoming freshmen):

  1. In order to participate in the Outward Bound activities, you must return the Liability Release Form signed by either you (18 years old or older) or your parent/guardian (17 years old or younger) no later than Tuesday, July 31, 2012. Please use the appropriate link to open, print and complete your form and submit it right away.

  3. Visit us here at the Macaulay building (35 W. 67th Street) during the first three weeks of August business hours to take your picture to create your Macaulay/Cultural Passport ID. This card will allow you access into the Macaulay building AND provide you with amazing access to many of New York's cultural riches during your time as a Macaulay Honors College scholar. The dates and times available for the ID photos are:

      9:30am-5:30pm
    • Monday, August 6 – Thursday, August 9
    • Monday, August 13 – Thursday, August 16
    • Monday, August 20, Tuesday August 21
    • Friday, August 24

Wednesday, August 22nd, 8:00am – 4:30pm
Outward Bound Day on Governors Island

SCHEDULE

  • 8:00am - Students need to arrive at Battery Park meeting site (see below)
  • 9:00am - Ferry departure to Governors Island
  • 4:00pm - Ferry departure from Governors Island (back to Manhattan)

WHERE TO MEET
Cobble Stone Area, Battery Park Entrance (across from 17th State Street)


HOW TO GET THERE
By Subway
4 or 5 to Bowling Green
1 to South Ferry
R and W to Whitehall Street
M, J, and Z to Broad St.

By Bus
M1 to South Ferry
M6 and M15 to South Ferry


WHAT TO EXPECT

  • You are going to be very active. Be prepared to do a lot of walking and other physical activities. This means wear closed-toe shoes! Check the weather forecast before leaving home and bring rain gear if rain is expected. This event will take place RAIN OR SHINE.
  • Do not bring more than you can carry and do not bring valuables. There is no place to store personal belongings.
  • Lunch will be provided.

Macaulay Community Resources Day at Hunter College

SCHEDULE

  • 9 AM - 12 PM
    • Depending on your specific campus, you MAY have morning meetings scheduled during this time. Be sure to check with the Macaulay Advisors or Director on your campus for details.
    • 1:00pm - 2:00pm
      • All freshmen: Academic Affairs "Welcome" meeting at the Assembly Hall, Hunter North bldg.
    • 2:00pm – 3:15pm
      • Group A (tbd) = Advisor meetings, Hunter West bldg. classrooms
      • Group B (tbd) = Community Resources Fair, Hunter West bldg., Student Café, 3rd floor
    • 3:30pm – 4:45pm
      • Group B = Advisor meetings (same as above)
      • Group A = Community Resources Fair (same as above)

  • Day #3 will be Tech Day, when you will come to the Macaulay building for hands-on workshops and discussions with the Instructional Technology Fellows and your classmates. You will be getting your Macaulay eportfolio account, and your own Macaulay email address. Oh, and you will receive your brand new MacBook Pro!
    ***You MUST bring a photo ID, NO exceptions.
  • Refreshments will be served
