Macaulay Beyond the Classroom

Macaulay Honors College allows for an enhanced college experience. Outstanding educational opportunities await both on and off CUNY campuses. Macaulay students are encouraged to seek those opportunities and to seek those opportunities outside the classroom which complement academic pursuits.

Study abroad, internship, and service experiences are critical co-curricular activities for you. They greatly expand knowledge and further personal development, ultimately allowing you to better determine priorities, values, and goals. It's up to you to take honors beyond the classroom.

What concerns you most in the world?

What curiosities and questions do you have? An honors student is one who addresses issues both in and beyond the classroom--as often as possible. Being an honors student means committing to rigorous study in the present, in order to be of maximal benefit in the future. That benefit will be realized only so much as you, also in the present, explore outside the classroom. For this reason, each honors students is required to complete at least one study abroad or internship experience. Students are also required to engage public issues and questions by performing at least 30 hours of community service.

The Faithful Fourteen Fight Against Malaria in Ghana--Fourteen Macaulay Honors College students participated in the Alternative Summer Break Program: "Don't Just Give Them Nets, Hang Them Up." The team, along with Macaulay staff, Solita Alexander and Lena Tuck, worked to address malaria issues with the children and families of L&A Memorial Academy K-8 school, in an underserved area of Accra, Ghana.
